Testicular Sperm Aspiration (TESA) and Microsurgical Epididymal Sperm Aspiration (MESA) are microsurgical procedures to retrieve sperms from the testicular tissues or the epididymis (beginning part of the vas deferens) in males who have no sperms in their ejaculates either due to congenital absence of the vas deferens or in obstructive azoospermia resulting from previous vasectomy or past infections. The retrieved sperms are cryopreserved and subsequently thawed and used when their wives undergo the ICSI cycles.
